The deposit was paid on a credit card so I could go down that route but I tried eofre when I was waiting for Ryanair to refund me for another holiday and never heard back from them despite chasing.0 -
Thanks all
We ended up going to Citizens Advice who confirmed that we are entitled to a full refund of the deposit as the flights were cancelled before the final balance was due.
However we have decided to keep the deposit with the company, as they have given us the option of either moving the holiday as is to another date (and will guarantee no price change) or alternatively cancelling it altogether and using the deposit towards another holiday which we think is fair as we were looking to use them again anyway.0 -
So glad you are happy with your choice but Citizens advice is just that.. advice. Nothing to do with law. Fact is your flight hasn’t actually been cancelled officially yet. Doesn’t matter what you think or anticipate. Until the airlines tell you the flights are cancelled you don’t have any sort of claim.0

Flights being taken off sale isn't the same as flights being cancelled. Several Star Alliance (who Thai are) carriers have removed flights from sale temporarily that have since gone ahead, as have others such as Aeroflot.
If OP hasn't paid the balance when it is due, then they have no right to their deposit back, as at this time the holiday was due to go ahead.
If OP was told by the agent that the flights have been cancelled, then as long as this was before the balance due date, they are entitled to their deposit back.💙💛 💔0 -

So our flight has been cancelled.
We found out from Thai Airways initially, and queried this with our TA who confirmed that this was the case and they were cancelled BEFORE our balance was due.
So yes, we are entitled to our deposit back but decided to keep the money with the TA as we intend to use them again when we can finally travel again.1
