my dell dimension 2400 was freezing up everytime it reached the desktop on start up until i finally managed to find the problem, This being the SOUNDMAX INTEGRATED DIGITAL AUDIO, When i disable this in device manager the pc loads up and works fine but i have no sound. I have tried uninstalling, and reinstalling the driver from the dell resources cd, but soon as i boot up the mouse cursor freezes.Ever Since this problem I cant get internet access as When i try to get on AOL I get to the welcome screen for about 5 seconds then it disconnects.
I have had this prob for a while and its really starting to get to me. If anyone could help i,d be overjoyed
cheers and thanks,

I would reinstall all your software and start again! I cannot understand why you disable your onboard audio, unless you have bought a separate soundcard?.
All you do to disable onboard audio is disable it in the bios, boot up your system and hold the delete key and look through the menus till you get to onboard sound and disable it.
Press f10 and click yes for save.
Sometimes the only option is to do a full reinstall from your dell set up disks; the computer looks at all the programs to load up and doesn’t like the device manager being played with.
Anyway I hope this helps you out I'm not poor i'm just skint0 -
thanks for your help boogiemaster.
the only reason i disabled audio in device manager was to keep the pc running so i could try and investigate the problem further.
as it was (with audio enabled in device manager) the computer was freezing uo within seconds of reaching the desk top and i could,nt go any further, probably some sort of conflict.

Have you looked for a newer soundmax driver version than on the disk from Dell website, this problem could have allready been reported and solved in a updated driver. It's worth having a look.0
