"1st" class post...

So, had an A4 letter to send, so sent first class on Wednesday - still not arrived. I know they now say its a 'delivery aim' to be next day, but if this is first class, what would second be?

1st class means we will prioritise if after our guaranteed deliverys. 2nd class means it's one down from that (and never occurs, feel free to waste your money for no additional benefit (except at you know insane times like xmas)).

  • You do realise the postal service has been affected by the pandemic since March and is still ongoing.

I’ve had a variety of 1st and 2nd class to send and receive over the months and timescales have varied from a few days to a few weeks.

Indeed, but the cost for it has remined the same and they have now had 6 months to sort out processes to compensate for Covid-19.
Anyway it arrived today so posted on weds, arrived following Monday - not a first class service as far as i'm concerned.

Royal Mail only state they aim to get it there the next day, not that it will. It would be hard to prove if they were deliberately slowing down your post. But if they don't have enough staff due to sickness, or they can't work as effeciantly due to social distancing it will slow things down. If something must arrive on a certain day then pay for the appropriate service.
  • First class mail has always been a total waste of money.

  • Completely agree !

If your not happy use one of many other services available to you.
  • 1st class post is assumed to arrive 2 working days after posting (per the Interpretations Act 1978). Whether it actually does is another matter, but for serving legal papers then 1st class post with a certificate of posting is all you need for evidence of service.
