  • Your future self will also thank you as you have chosen the job with a definite DB pension.

Assuming you stay for the minimum of 2 years you will be contributing c£1500 each year (c£1200 after tax relief) in pension contributions and getting a pension of £633 each year from age 68 in return.  Not to be sniffed at.
Nice one, thanks! That's marble floors and swimming pool for me when I retire  B)

Maybe not quite that good but plenty of people would be more than happy with the potential for two state backed pensions totalling c£33k at normal state pension age

Plus whatever else you have got banked from previous work.
  • You’ve made the right choice.  I’ve worked in 3 CS departments (Inland Revenue as was), Defra and now MOD.  I knew someone who walked out of her job with DWP due to the way she was treated.

Moving between departments is easy - it’s classed as Other Government Departments and you transfer over your entitlement to extra annual leave too.  It’s literally just a form that the old HR team fills out and sends to the new one.

Good luck and congratulations on the new job!
  • Thank you everyone for your advice!
