I thought I would try and bring this thread a little more up to date for those that are interested.

All the bonds (bar one - see below) did, in fact, for part of my MIL's estate. That was a good thing, as FIL had used up all of his allowance, paying a chunk of IHT.

BUT. Whilst checking their house one day in June this year, a letter from Standard Life appeared on the doorstep. It was a statement for a bond that I'd thought he'd cashed in for care home fees. I thought he'd cashed it in because I'd found a letter that he'd typed to SL asking for the bond to be liquidated and placed in his bank account.

What I didn't realize was that he'd obviously changed his mind at the last minute and decided to fund it some other way - but he'd kept the letter on file in his my documents folder!

When we did get in touch with SL, they said that we'd run out of time to reassign the bond to MIL and so it would now form part of FIL's estate - more IHT!

We're just in the final throes of finishing up the estate - house is sold, exchange is end of the month. Now, on to reinvesting for the future....
It'll be alright in the end. If it's not alright, it's not the end....
