'Verified by Visa' problems when making credit card payments

Is anyone else out there having problems with 'Verified by Visa'? I hadn't been asked for my 'Verified by Visa' password to complete an online transaction for around 2 years.....it might even have been longer. Over the last 2 or 3 months, I'm finding that almost all my online transactions are requiring this verification in order to proceed. I've no problem if it is meaningful added security & thankfully I could remember my password - so far, so good. I pay off two credit cards each month. In both cases, the transaction on the online card provider's website goes through perfectly well, until it gets right to the end when the 'Verified by Visa' screen appears. Then, I input my password & on one credit card, everything is fine & the transaction completes as normal. On the other credit card, I input my password, click 'submit' & instead of returning to my card account screen with the usual 'transaction complete' message, I get a screen of random gobbledigook typeface (symbols & letters) from which there is no return, except to close down the screen, so the transaction doesn't complete because Visa has effed about & not verified anything. This is getting annoying because it is frequent (though not every time) & it seems faintly ridiculous in 2020 that I actually might need to post a cheque to make my credit card payment this month! Nothing against cheques - they do still have their uses, but as this problem has now happened multiple times, I wondered if anyone else is experiencing anything similar & whether there's a simple solution to it which I have missed.
Any ideas welcome. I've contacted Verified by Visa's customer email address, but am not expecting a reply until into next week, so thought I'd try & tap the brains on here in the meantime.
Cheers,
F

A point to note just because VbV fails as you describe, does not mean the transaction IS declined.
It could simply be a issue with how that retailer's system is displaying the data, or there is a delay in the link so the site does not know what to do.

If you ever get a decline or issue such as this. Have a quick check of your card/bank acc to see if the available balance has dropped down by the amount.

Many issues can be browser related or even O/S relegated. Some sites do not like Apple and fail to display things like confirm boxes or fail to move between input fields.

    Hi,
Thanks, both of you, for replying. The screen of gobbledigook following 'Verified by Visa' password submission does always coincide with termination of the transaction, but I do always check, born_again, just in case the money has gone out. Although making regular payments to this credit card account using my visa debit card has been perfectly hassle-free in the past, I've decided that yes, the best way to get around repeated 'Verified by Visa' problems (it only happens when paying this one specific credit card) is to make my payments by internet banking instead. It will be faster, jonesMUFCforever, that's very true.

Funnily enough, I have just today been prompted for some characters from my long-forgotten Verified by Visa password, for the first time in many months if not years. As I have often done in the past, without a hope of remembering the password, I just aborted the transaction. Couldn't be bothered.
  • Yesterday had Verified By Visa via code sent by text to phone.

    Smooth transaction.

There is a forgotten password option on the screen.

That's what I couldn't be bothered with. Not just the faff of actually doing it, but having to think up and then try to remember a new non-obvious password.
