  • You can renegotiate the price for whatever reason you want. There is no rule that it should be for things you couldn't have anticipated. The survey is there to literally tell you this stuff so it doesn't come as a surprise after you hand over the money. If you want to renegotiate then do so. Get some quotes. Your seller will probably be annoyed but not necessarily with you.

It is not obvious for most people - especially FTB - if a property needs rewiring. AdrianC's comment is odd but it is good for him that he just knows all the stuff. Most of us need surveyors to help.

    You can ask.
The seller does not have to agree.
    Negotiations are not unilateral.
  • Sure, that much is true. But you can ask and renegotiate. I did after my survey as the place needed a new roof. For someone else that could have been obvious, I hadn't budgeted for it.

thanks  everyone for you fair sensible feedback. If only I had Adrian C with me I could have by passed the survey. My quick glances are evidently not serving me well. And how on earth did I miss the high levels of radon gas to. 😉
