bet way to accept payment for a car
Options
I have just agreed a sale of my old car on ebay. I asked for payment as cash on collection. I was just wondering is this the best way for payment. Dont really want paypal as they will charge me ( in addition to the selling costs on ebay) Just worried in case the cash was for lack of a better word "dodgy" as it is an individual, not a business, but I dont like the thought of giving out bank details for a bank transfer (I am a 64 year old lady and not used to doing this sort of thing) Any advise is welcome.

I would get them to do a bank transfer. It's safe enough

How much did it sell for?If it's hundreds, then cash is easiest, you can buy a counterfeit detector pen.If it's more than that, bank transfer is probably safer. You'd need to either do online banking which may take a while, or see if they can meet you at a bank and make the payment in the branch.1

Your bank details are printed on cheques so you have given them out many times probably without thinking much about it.
But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Do the handover on a weekday so that you know the transfer will go through straight away via Faster Payments. Don't release the keys or the V5C/2 slip until it shows in your account. No free lunch, and no free laptop1
