REVOLUT

Options
Be warned if you are considering applying for an account with Revolut.  Their customer service is absolutely appalling with no other way to try and make contact through the App. My account has been frozen pending a security check re the origin of funds. This has now been weeks and yet still no contact ... €28k trapped!!!

  • Totally agree with the customer service, even though I stated I had no photo ID they kept repeating no problem a
copy of my Passport will be fine. NO PHOTO ID.... No problem a copy of your driving licence..   STILL NO PHOTO ID...
No problem a copy of your Citizen Permit. WTH is one of those???  STILL NO PHOTO ID.

I gave up and tried closing the account but it re-opens, so i just ignore them now.

Isn't the max transfer £3k   for a verified account, never mind a new one?

  • Photo ID is pretty standard for financial institutions and very much so for these app banks.
Would they be able to return the funds from source and you get them that way?

It's a rare thing for me to close an account but tonight I have closed my Revolut account. I spent a couple of hours today trying to figure out why I still have a GBxx IBAN with them, instead of having been migrated to an LTxxx one. I was unable to conclude this from information on their website or their community forum, and I was also unable to contact CS, either through their in-app chat, on the phone or by email. Chat isn't answered by a real person, the chat bot doesn't understand the question, and there is no phone number or email address.

In my search for info, I did come across countless complaints from people desperate for support, which wasn't forthcoming. Whilst I have used Revolut a few times without problems in the past, I now realise that the risk of not being able to contact them in case of problems is just way too high for my liking. Given that I can get all I need from Transferwise, whose CS I have had a positive experience with, I ditched Revolut altogether. Luckily they do allow you to close your account in the app, although it took me a further 20-odd minutes to actually work out how, as all their account closure instructions on the web (incl a Youtube video) are out of date.

As and if they get their UK banking licence, I might reconsider, provided they are then offering substantially better customer support.
  • To the OP, why would you put 28k into an account which isn't protected?

I used to have an account but only used it when I went on holiday. Never more than a few hundred pounds within the account. Got rid after the holidays stopped.

The OP started this thread on 24th September last year and hasn't been back since, so I doubt you'll get a reply.

I don't blame you. The customer service is terrible, which is a shame because it used to be good and it has saved me a small fortune on fees for overseas payments over the years. Nowadays I use Barclaycard Rewards for overseas spending and Starling Bank for ATM withdrawals. I haven't closed down my Revolut yet as I'm keeping it in case I need a back-up, but I haven't used it for a while and don't intend to use it in future.
