Advice Needed

I booked a uk holiday break with someone who owns some cottages. The balance we was due in full 6 weeks in advance. Due to rumblings about the COVID 19 the final balance balance about £300 was not paid as some refused to pay anymore in fear of losing more money.
As we effectively broke contract does anyone know if any refund is due? The owner of cottages advised would refund in full however when they discovered we hadnt paid balance in full he changed his mind and offered us balance minus deposit.
However we also believe he may have breached contract as no written T&C provided at time if booking. Citizens advice believe this will be breach of trading standards.
Anyone ideas👍🏻

If they're refusing to refund, your only option is to try a Section 75 / Chargeback depending on payment method used - or take them to Small Claims if you believe you've been wronged.
Usually it's much easier just to agree a new date in 2021 - and you'll likely find they're far more open to this as it saves you both losing money. Is this an option?0 -
Hi yeah thats advice ive already been given. Think will just end up tit for tat and if small claims may cost more than amount to get back which amounts to about £30 per person0

Mattyprice's advice and the other same advice you have been given is probably the only advice anyone can give. When was this holiday for? As you broke the contract initially by not paying the balance then you aren't actually due anything back if the cottages were ready and available so I would probably take the offer on the table.0
