in IVA & DRO
He has had an IVA for two years now, never missed a payment, always paid rent on time at his place etc We'd love him to move in to my flat - the landlord is happy with this but the letting agent is running a reference on him. We're really worried that his IVA will ruin his chances. The letting agent has put him down for half the rent, not sure if this'd help or hinder in anyway. I wish they'd put me down as the full rent payer seeing as I've been here alone for a year now anyway and maybe that would have helped.
We're still waiting to hear back and the wait is killing us as a lot of other things hang on this - if he can't move in, we're really stuck
Just hoping someone may know what his chances are of the referencing coming back as okay or not? He doesn't have anyone who can be his guarantor and we can't afford 6mths rent upfront.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation as us?

This is more of a housing question, which is why I'm struggling to understand - why can't he just move in?1

Well the landlord is fine with it, but the lettings manager said "as long as referencing comes back okay" So now we're panikcing that they'll say no due to his IVA. I wish he could have just been added to the tenancy - not sure why referencing needed to be done0

You could have had him just move in, you would be responsible for all the rent, like you are now, and you wouldn't have the stress of him going through referencing.

I'd have had to let the landlord know. Plus as I am a single parent and only work 25hrs a week - I receive Universal Credit to help, so they'd need informing too so would need a copy of new tenancy agreement with him on it too.0

It's the landlord that owns the property - not the agency. I can see the advantage to them of having two people to chase should you do a runner. And on n assured shorthold tenancy you can always be given notice under section 21.
What I don't really see the point of is the credit check. If it comes back negative, what are they going to do?
I don't think UC will need to see a tenancy agreement with his name on it. As long as you declare that he has moved in, they will readjust the award to a joint award. The rent presumably stays the same so that shouldn't bother them.
But that's a benefits issue and I'm not an expert on that either.
