Late payments, desperate for a mortgage, please help!

Hello, I'd be so grateful if anyone can offer me some advice. Toward the end of 2018 and start of 2019 I was in a very bad financial position due to circumstances beyond my control (childcare arrangements falling through, tenant refusing to pay rent) and I got into a real mess. During this time I maintained full communication with both my bank and credit card company, the 2 that I was really struggling to manage. They stopped charging me, they were really understanding and gave me a period of 3 months to get sorted, otherwise the accounts would default. I managed to pay back the total amount that I owed to both, before the 3 month period ended. During this time I kept up all of my mortgage payments (I was trying to sell my flat, this has since finally been sold).I was aware that I would have late payments, but thought that as I didn't get to the stage where I was defaulting then this would not be so bad. I am now in a strong position - I am in pretty secure full time work, I have a reasonable chunk toward a deposit and can afford a mortgage. However, no lenders will even consider me as I have late payments, that are shown as adverse account on my credit file. I understand why they are there, but is there anything I can do to try and get these removed? I have a written a goodwill letter to both lenders but have not had any response. Does anybody have experience with anything similar? My mortgage broker thinks I am a good customer who had a difficult time and also thinks I shouldn't have to go to a bad credit lender ( I don't even know if one of these would lend to me). It is so frustrating as I am paying substantial rent every month when I could be paying a mortgage, but i cannot seem to do anything to improve my situation. The though that I have to wait 6 years for these to dop off my file is getting me down so much, and I'm worried that I will be to old to ever get a mortgage (in my early 40's)
So sorry for such a long post I would welcome any advice at all. Thank you

You missed the payments, it is an accurate reflection of what happened and the bank were not to blame for them, there is no valid reason for anyone to amend them
Sorry this is not what you want to hear.1 -
You shouldn't need to wait for 6 years until they drop off your file. Some lenders will consider late payments after 24-36 months.
As above what is on your credit file is an accurate picture of what happened so the late payment markers should not be removed. You just need to keep your finances in order for another 12-24 months and then you should be able to get a high street mortgage.1 -
Nothing you can do. Sorry. Your broker should be able to place you with a lender who takes people with adverse credit histories.
