Kidney/Gland Issues

I know this isn’t saving money related but my anxiety is through the roof.

It all started several weeks ago when I started complaining of stomach, side and lower back pain and the doctor found blood in my urine.

I was treated for a UTI & then kidney stones. Several weeks passed and I was sent for a CT scan. Three days later the GP rang.

They found inflammation around/of the kidney and the glands in my stomach are enlarged.

Within two days, I’ve attended the surgery for urgent bloods, an examination of my other areas to check glands, e.g neck, groin and armpits, she said she couldn’t feel anything.

I’ve had a second CT this time to look at my chest, stomach and pelvis and an appointment with a consultant at the hospital has been arranged for the 28th.

All of this is taking place within a week and a half of the GP calling with the original CT results.

My bloods came back, my ESR is raised and the test for glandular fever came back unclear so that’s getting repeated tomorrow. Not sure why that one was ordered when I’ve no signs of glandular fever.

No one is letting on about anything and I’ve no idea what the speciality I’m been sent to does, so I’m scared and anxious with the quickness and lack of information.

Any thoughts? I’d rather know something than nothing.

    Thanks for the response.

    I’ve been referred to haematology.

The lack of information is probably because untill all the tests are back, a diagnosis is impossible.

Unfortunately, I think you will need to wait for 28th for an answer. Guesses by random people on the internet based on incomplete information will not be helpful.

To be fair I totally agree.

It’s more out of frustration and the fact I can’t eat or sleep due to the excessive worrying.

Haematology is to do with blood.
The examination and CT scans sound like they were looking for / ruling out anything systemic or that could have travelled (though I'm absolutely not a professional so couldn't possibly speculate on what, and even if I were it would be totally wrong to do so anyway).

Absolutely - until they have the whole picture they probably can't rule many things (if anything) out and certainly can't pinpoint what it actually is either.

Obviously the speed of it all does suggest they feel it's urgent and it sounds like the next few days will be understandably a worrying wait. However if it helps, if they thought it could be imminently life-threatening they probably would have admitted you to hospital for all the tests to be done within a couple of days :)
  • Thanks. I understand fully.
It’s just going to be a long weekend.
  • Raised esr is non-specific; there are many causes. Good luck.
  • I’ve had many updates regarding various blood results from the GP since then, there’s a lot all over the place, some normal, some high, some low.

Seeing the consultant today at 1pm.
  • Good luck markN88. You must be worried sick hope it all is not as bad as you are imagining. It’s easy to think the worst when you don’t know. Thinking of you
