Bensons for beds cancellation charge

When we ordered a bed from Bensons in the shop the sales rep said we had 14 days to cancel the order. When we called to cancel a different rep said they charged a 20% cancellation fee even though the bed isn't due for delivery until November! We were not told of a cancellation fee when we put down the deposit, we were just told we could cancel within 14 days. I know we don't get the automatic 14 day cooling off period you get online, but if we are told verbally there is a 14 day cancellation period how can they reasonably charge a cancellation fee within the 14 days? We can't afford to lose the £372. Is there something we can do to get the deposit back?
