Hi,
I know the wireless router stuff has been done to death on here (sorry!), and I've read through the sticky, but my question is rather specific.
Recently got a laptop and now want to "go wireless" in the home. Basically just for web browsing, some music downloading, youtube etc but nothing too intensive. So I need a router. Get broadband through Tiscali, and understand all the stuff about I need an ADSL router not one for cable connections. However, I don't really know anything about routers and there are so many to choose from. My one concern is wanting to do it as cheaply as possible.
I have managed to find the Thomson Speedtouch 580 from DSL Depot who sell refurbished models, its just £20 delivered! A quick Google reveals that it is an old model, by a couple of years, however it seems to do everything I need it to (as far as I know?!) It has good security and supports 801.11g standard.
Does anyone know of any reason I shouldn't get it. Is the price really cheap for any reason, i.e. is it so outdated its not worth buying? Or is it a good buy that will do everything for me?
If the Thomson is no good, i'm also looking at the eBuyer extra value modem router which is £35 delivered. Any views on this??
Many thanks for anyones help.

it's WPA enabled which is the most important issue for security reasons. To be honest, you found yourself a bargain, and I would go for it.
It's not going to be capable of 801.11n but I wouldn't worry about that
There is a set up guide here0 -
Just a quick note to say thanks Red Rose. I ordered the Speedtouch 18.99 delivered by Parcel Force the next day.
Had a few teething troubles; my Vista laptop wouldn't connect when WPA was on. Googled it and seems this was an issue with the firmware version and Vista; upgraded the firmware and all worked well. Then discovered I couldn't access the router settings interface. This was due to an issue with the new firmware and Internet Explorer 7. Workaround is to use firefox for acessing settings.
Anyway, cut a long story short, its all working great now. An absolute bargain for under twenty quid!0
