O/S Daily Wednesday 23 September 2020
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Still quite dark, but raining steadily, started some time during the night as there's quite a bit of laying water already - this is the forecast for the next 3 days.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was scampi, chips and beans for the menfolk. I had baked fish and veg. I remembered to get the beef out to defrost so that is now in the slow cooker with stock and veg to make a beef casserole for tonight. I'll serve it with LO mash, veg, dumplings/yorkshires.
Yesterday work was quite busy and we still seem to have some tech issues - we'll see how today goes - but it's the last day of my working week - on days' off from tomorrow until going back on Monday.
Keep safe and well x

Good morning all. Thanks for starting us off NMLC.It's still dark'ish here and the streets are wet. Autumn has arrived.Yesterday my dental procedure was a success. The surgeon injected me with loads of local anaesthetic before cutting, drilling etc. Now I have about 15 stitches in the gum and my jaw is still swollen though it'll subside properly by tomorrow (I hope). I took a mega painkiller before bed which eased the pain considerably, this morning it's not too bad.As a precaution I have ABs and have a mouthwash to gently swish for two minutes at a time.I'm meeting a friend for breakfast in a couple of hours, I'll only be having scrambled egg, no toast! The new restrictions announced for here aren't too different from what we've had for the past few weeks though I'm struggling to understand the logic of pubs closing at 10pm. It's as if the virus is on a timer.Anyway, it is what it is. I hope that there's not too much dismay for my chums here. Now I'll do a little bit of surfing before surfacing properly. Happy Wednesday to everyone.14

Morning all
Thanks for the thread Nmlc and hugs to all those in need.
It's raining here too so Beano will get very wet when we go for our walk.
The back deck will be wet, I told Steve it was going to rain but he didn't believe me, I'll mop it up in a sec and put the sides on.
We are staying here for a week I think unless Steve changes his mind, I collected my car yesterday I set off at 7:30 as it's a 2 mile walk and Beano doesn't cope well in the heat.
DS2. phoned for a lift as his car was in for repair, he got my phone bluetoothed to my car which I'd been unable to do and gave me a bag of apples from his tree.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.13 -
Morning folks and thanks NMLC. It's a dark and wet start here too. Not heavy rain, just a mizzly sort of rain.
Like you GERS yesterday's announcement doesn;t affect us either. We have been in this local lockdown for about 8 weeks now and if and when we are released it won't make a great deal of difference. It's going to be a long miserable winter. I am going to force myself to catch the bus into town this morning, just for a brief wander, before I get to the state of not wanting to go out at all.
Yesterday's attempt at tidying up the front garden didn't last very long. It was cut short when I managed to grab a very thorny rose branch by mistake. OMG it did bleed. I went in to rinse it and put a plaster on and didn't go out again! So job half done and I was hoping to get it all done before the weather changed. It's hard to think I used to enjoy gardening when I was in my prime!!
I made a lovely cauliflower cheese soup yesterday from a WW recipe that DD passed on to me. Some has gone in the freezer and some left out for my lunch today with the usual bagel or wrap.
Have a good day folks if you can and ((HUGS)) for all in need. Hope the convalescents are progressing well and GERS that procedure sounded very painful. I hope you manage to enjoy your toastless scrambled eggs. Take care one and all and stay safe xx

Morning All
Running a bit late this morning - too much pottering about!
Lovely morning but quite chilly, I'll have to find some socks soon!
Hope you're all well, take care. XX13 -
Good morning everyone
It's damp and dull here this morning and we are forecast more rain later. Gers, I am glad your dental surgery went well, the results will be worth the pain I am sure.
I have had a bit of a breakdown and that's why I haven't been posting. It was a combination of anxiety about the virus, worry about family matters and rubbish from my past. I still don't feel brilliant to be honest but I can at least function today. There has been a deathly silence from my CPN and psychiatrist so Steve has been coping all on his own.
I didn't watch the announcement from Boris yesterday but I have gathered the gist of the new restrictions from Facebook. My sister is travelling down from Wales for the day on Saturday to see our new baby great-niece. Her area isn't in lockdown yet but as it is bordered by all the other areas that is it will only be a matter of time. She wants to pop in to see me as it could be the last visit for a very long time. I hope she makes it as I have some toys I've made for my nieces.
I am back on the Slimming World kick so dinner will be healthy with lots of vegI am thinking of asking Lee to make garlic chicken and rice as it is quick and tasty. Yet another one of my nieces is getting married next April so I have a goal to get into a nice new dress for it. I will act as though we will still be going although of course it is all dependant on this virus.
Ok, I am off to scoff some porridge and a banana. Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx

Morning all Weather is decidedly autumnal this morning Dog has been walked and DS is now in bed after night work so i am on a mission to clean today as DH is working from home tomorrow . The stair and landing carpet has been removed so all the floors feel dusty and gritty at the moment . popped to B&Q yesterday to get some more decorating bits we were going to pop to Costco for some chocolate and pressies for xmas but the queue was ridiculous as the idiots were out panic buying again so we didn't bother and popped to home bargains instead and got a few pressies.
The restrictions won't really make any difference to us at the moment or DD2's wedding as long as where the registry office is doesn't go into local lockdown its a london borough and the rates there have shot up ,there are only going to be 10 of us including them so we are still good to go we are going to where they are having the blessing for a sunday lunch afterwards 2 x tables of 5
Dinner tonight chicken casserole
Gers glad it all went ok at the dentist
TA pleased Twinkle is feeling a bit better with the meds
Hugs to all those who need them have a good day xSlava Ukraini14 -
Morning
Yukky wet and grey weather here looks like its in for the day
Gers Take it easy today that sounds like it will be painful if the painkillers wear off
Rubes Good luck on the job front they sound like a great employer so hopefully will be a able to offer a suitable job when you are ready
Treated myself this morning to a new speed mop....my cup runneth over with excitementActually its even worse as I used a Amazon voucher a good friend gave me for my birthday. Probably won't tell him what I spent it on. I very nearly bought some new cook books I'm tempted by but sadly the mop won
Declutter continues today problem is I am restricted by how much room I have in the bin. Maybe my next treat will be a skip. Yesterday I dragged out a very old turntable which at the time I thought i would use to listen to all my old vinyl when in truth I have probably used twice. Put up on a local site but if it doesn't go that's heading for the bin too.
Remembered to get the prawns out today so will have garlic prawns and some patatas braves for dinner
Have a good day all13 -
Decided to postpone breakfast with my friend. I'm OK just not feeling as good as I anticipated. Must remember that I'm not 18 and my bouncability is not as good as it was! 😢
More sleep for me.13 -
Bella, I was thinking about you after the announcement, I'm glad it won't affect your DD's plans.
Dumpling, I'm sorry you've ben having a hard time, I think the thought of 6 more months of this is affecting a lot of people.
Laura, Brian and Esben managed to get tested at a walk-in centre only a mile away from home yesterday. Fingers crossed the results come back quickly. Tibs is back at the vet today so hopefully she will be improving. Apparently she came out of the bedroom she'd been holed up in yesterday so must have been feeling a bit better.
I tried to ring for flu jab appointments but couldn't get through yesterday so will have to try again today.12 -
Good morning and thank you for the thread nmlc. Damp and drizzly here, a real contrast to the lovely sunshine we were having. I spent yesterday in the garden and today will be paperwork.
Dumpling I'm sorry to read that you have been having a difficult time, hope things feel better.
Not much change with yesterday's announcement as we are already in local lockdown. But I do feel that it has made the hope of things changing recede. That was an unrealistic hope anyway. I would love to spend time with friends and sadly, this can't happen yet. However, I have a garden and can go outside, there are places to walk and my OH and DS are here.
I am not sleeping very well, the night before last I had another end of the world dream in which I was the last person alive and had to take poison, I woke myself up but each time the dream started again. Last night's offering was less dramatic, I was rolling out pastry on the ironing board. It came out lumpy. So am feeling a bit jaded and weary but it will pass.
Hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12
