Furlough, Redundancy, New Job

Options
I've been on furlough since March.  I've been expecting redundancy for a while and so started looking for a new job a few weeks ago.
I was quite happy to hand my notice in if I got a new job, would rather have guaranteed income rather than hang around waiting for redundancy.  However, I got my risk of redundancy letter on the same day as a new job offer!!  I'm pretty confident I will be selected for redundancy, so it seems silly to hand my notice in when redundancy is imminent.
My new employer wants me to start asap - I have said I'm on 4 weeks notice.  It will still be at least a week or more before I am made redundant - consultation meeting is next week and then I will need to wait for the notice to be served.  This would mean I need to start new job later, but I don't want to mess around my new employer.
Do you think I would be ok to start my new job during my notice period (I will not be required by current employer to do any work - I've not done any work in over 6 months!)
I'm thinking it would be ok because it's ok to work for another employer when furloughed - I'm just not sure if serving notice due to redundancy changes this in anyway.
Any help would be appreciated.

These are unusual times. Given you are currently furloughed and under notice of redundancy you could simply not tell your employer of your job offer. See how events unfold so to speak.

In the Op's situation I would do this.
