Kitchen tile - Cleaning

Hi,
Our kitchen tiles look rather...black as grime has built up over the years. In the past, we used acid (Not sure where from, or what kind ) however that's become a bit harder to buy these days for obvious reasons
Does anyone know of something easy (ish), and decent as a kitchen tile cleaner?
Also, if we use acid, I'm guessing I'd need goggles, and a full "acid suit" too?

Acid? Are you sure that didn't damage the surface of your tiles?
I use bleach, has the added advantage of bringing the grout back to white1 -
Just use a normal kitchen cleaner and scrub them. They will mostly have degreaser in them, which is probably what most of grime is in a kitchen. If that isn't enough, something like Barkeeper's Friend might work - I use that on any tough dirt or marks.
Then clean them regularly!1 -
Is it the tiles or the grout that's turning black?0

Read the other day that paste made of bicarbonate of soda and household bleach applied and left overnight works well on white grout. Tiles themselves should clean up with any degreaser and nylon scourer.0

Only ever use a spray kitchen cleaner. Use and old soft dish sponge/scourer and then wipe with kitchen paper so you don't leave any residue that hasn't wiped off.If bleach or bicarb doesn't whiten the grout I've used shoe whitener, leave to dry and wipe over brings any smudges off the tiles. Works behind boilers and fires and lasts ages.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on
