I have an 09 1.3 cdti meriva when i start it up there is grey looking smoke with a smell clears after few minuites
But sometimes it starts again on my journey i was told it might be the dpf but took it on moterway kept it at 3 revs doing 70 miles per hour for 20 miles no different then told could be egr valve

I would suggest you get a quote from a garage to fix the problem. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0

Could be many things, get it to a garage so they can diagnose the issue.0

Not the DPF, not the EGR valve - neither will cause that.
Grey looking smoke with a smell on startup, which you'll find is similar to a weakened smell of diesel fuel, is usually unburnt diesel being thrown out the exhaust. If it's doing it after being stood for a long time then it's likely the injectors are leaking. You turn off the engine, over time some of the fuel that's in the injector pipes leaks into the cylinders due to worn injectors, it pools in the cylinder then when you start the engine it gets chucked out the exhaust. Once it's all burnt off then the smoke and smell stops.
Cost wise you're typically looking at around £200-£300 per injector with fitting and recoding the ECU. It may be one of them, it may be all of them but they'll need to be tested for leakage.0
