Hi my employer has advised me that they would like me to take unpaid leave they are calling it a Winter Break With no hours .With this in mind I presume I can after 4 weeks apply for redundancy as an option if I wish to as no work likely for most of the Winter I feel I have to be careful on this as if I accept the break the employer can to get out of redundancy option Any help comments help please

Winter is officially 3 months away. How long are your employers expecting this "break" to last? How are they expecting you to live without a wage?
What type of contract do you have? Zero hours or fixed number of hours per week? Would your job still require to be done after the "break"? Does your contract allow for layoffs? How long have you worked there? If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0 -
The Winter break will last from beginning of Nov to Late March possibly longer if work does not pick up The contract allows layoffs such as short term working but you get naff all about 5 days pay for 3 months time off I think that’s what they call the minimum Guarantee pay they have to pay you The contract are fixed shifts fixed hours so not zero contract You get more hours in summer when busy in a normal year Worked there for over 5 years. As far as I’m aware if after 4 weeks you get no work you can apply for redundancy The other issue is if you agree to take break would it affect benefit payments would need to look into it also I’m sure there’s many people like me in same situation0

What does your contract say: 5 Hours work per week, 40 hours per week?
You can apply for redundancy, they can reject you. so not a clue why you think that's an option.0 -
Similar to my situation Tyton01. See my post from 19th Sept entitled "Unpaid Layoff & Redundancy Rights". Unfortunately can't get any clear answers anywhere. No income is not sustainable - you may be entitled to JSA or Universal Credit meantime.0

Ok just to clarify the hours they are 24 hrs in contract then you can get more hours in the summer months as it is a busier period With regards to Redundancy it’s an option I might want as would at least get a payout to help pay bills rather than being on absolute no salary for 6 months and can still claim benefits but I know won’t be much0
