in Credit cards
I applied online and was given a limit of more than I expected £9k. As part of the application online I requested a BT for £4.5k, sorry now I hadn't taken a chance with a higher request. Do Virgin send out cheques and can I use them for the other £4.5k into my current account .

If you do 2 BT's you'll be hit by 2 x £50 capped BT fees, ie you won't be able to take advantage of the cap.
If the BT hasn't been processed yet, try and stop it. Then do one super balance transfer* from your current account for the whole £8,550 (95% of £9K). This will save you £50.
Your post raises an interesting question...is it better to leave off the BT request? (I believe it is, but if you think otherwise, better make it a big 'un next time
) After all, they're only going to give you what they think you can afford to pay back based on their 'scoring' of you. As you have now found, it would have been much better to wait and see what they allocate.
* Because MBNA run cards will allow the transfer of an overdraft to their cards (ie, a transfer of cash to your current account) at 0%, you won't need to use the cheques. Just make sure you do the (S)BT on the telephone, so you can check it is given at 0%.

Sound advise Yorkshire Boy.
Just off the phone with them and even though the account is in the process of being set-up the lady I spoke with advised me to call back tomorrow between 9 am - 5 pm and while she couldn't change it someone else dealing with the account just might.
Might get a result.
Thanks.
