Council Tax Benefit - moving in with parents

My parents are in receipt of council tax benefit. I need to help them out with their daily tasks but as I live quite a way from them I will be staying one or two nights .
What details do I need to provide the council with or is it the job of my parents to inform them. I haven't stayed with them yet - plan to stay sometime this week.
I assume their benefit will be stopped - but once this Coronavirus is all over then they can apply for it again?

If you are only staying for a few days (or indeed a few weeks) but normally live elsewhere the council do not need to be told.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

What happens if I end up staying for longer than a few weeks and when we inform them, they can say my parents have broken the law as they should have informed them initially when I moved in?0

You wouldn't be moving in until you decide that is what you are doing. There is no law requiring people to notify the local authority if people visit them.bigpappa said:What happens if I end up staying for longer than a few weeks and when we inform them, they can say my parents have broken the law as they should have informed them initially when I moved in?
What is your 'normal' living situation? Are you paying rent and/or Council tax somewhere else?
In your post you talk about visiting for a few days. In the heading you refer to moving in. Visiting and moving in are completely different.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0 -

Visiting and moving in are completely different.I pay council tax elsewhere and live wit my family elsewhere. How would you describe me staying with my parents for 1 or 2 nights a week - one week I may only come for a few hours other I may stay 2 night. It is temporary but for how long? I cannot say.0 -
If you’re only visiting and staying a couple of nights here and there then there’s no need to tell them. It would be a little odd if everyone reported visitors/ family staying every time they visited. Yes changes need to be reported but naturally within reason.0

You normally reside somewhere else regardless of how long you stay, therefore there is no need to tell the local authority.bigpappa said: I pay council tax elsewhere and live wit my family elsewhere. How would you describe me staying with my parents for 1 or 2 nights a week - one week I may only come for a few hours other I may stay 2 night. It is temporary but for how long? Well they called the Council who started asking about my details, income etc. I called up to explain but they were not having it - they think I was coming to liver permanently even after I explained. They said a Benefits Officer will make an adjudication.0

If you moved in and were in receipt of Attendance Allowance/Carers Allowance, you would be a non person as far as council tax is concerned but you need to make the claims and fill the forms.0

I am not in receipt of any benefit. I was going to stay with them one or two days a week to help them out. I am still living and paying council tax elsewhere.

Was this before or after you asked for advice here?
