Stripping painted lining paper

  • You aren't using a steamer? Quite a difference in effectiveness betwixt water and steam.

The garden sprayer will certainly put plenty of water on the wall, but I'm not sure how effective it'll be - most will just run off. Only the small amounts that manage to penetrate the puncture holes will have any effect - steam is far more effective.

If you must persist with the sprayer, try adding a drop of washing-up liquid - that will make the water wetter. Still won't be as effective as steam, tho'.

Sorry should of made it clear.

First I am scoring the paper, then using the garden sprayer applying a coat of warm water and fabric conditioner. Letting that soak for 5 mins before using steamer.

I am just wondering if the garden sprayer technique is just coating the outer paper layer and not actually penetrating it? Is a roller better?

Bucket of warm, soapy (washing up liquid) water and a sponge is all you need if not using a steamer. Wipe on, let it penetrate and soak in then go over again.
  • I hate steam wallpaper removers. I don't see it as any faster, and it's quite easy to pop the plaster off if you over do it
when using the steam, you have to hold it over the small area and wait (wasting time). if you just wet the wall it's much faster, you can wet the entire wall in 2 mins and then you go off a do something else whilst it soaks in.
if you just score it, and keep wetting it, once you get it wet enough it'll be easy to get off

A good all over soak with a sponge then I found starting near the top and over soaking the next bit down and the cleared bit with the sponge seemed to help get the water to penetrate on the the open edge and as you pull the edge away any surplus water just soaks the next bit down if careful it comes off in bigger bits

Spraying I think it will just run down the wall rather than soak in
