  •  Thanks for this, ive been having the same problem. Smelly drain when the washer starts then dirty water sitting in the bottom of the machine later when its empty.

Ive just turned the thing round that the hose is attached to. See if that stops it.?

    Thank you all!
@Homer_home - yes, we thought that looked wrong. By twisting the spigots so they point up (not down), as @Nearlyold suggests, does that achieve what we need?
We've now cleaned out the drain pipe, but assume that the inside of the machine (the bit where the pipe connects to it) is also dirty. I'd already run hot washes using washing machine cleaner. Is there an issue if I pour some of the washing machine cleaner fluid (Dettol machine cleaner, diluted) down the back of the machine where the drain pipe exits?
    Thank you!

If you can dig out your instructions for your washing machine it will show you in there how to correctly route your waste pipe (or download it)

The waste pipe needs to form a physical upside down u to work properly

I never knew that. Have just checked our washing machine and dishwasher hoses and neither was in an upside down U although we were not having any problems with them back draining. I have no rerouted the hoses to form upside down U shapes.
  •  Well no smell this morning and no water in the machine.
    Thanks ♥️
  • No problem
