Waste pipe noise

I'm getting the occasional clicking or drip sound from my waste soil pipe should I be worried.
The waste soil pipe is boxed in my lounge kitchen wall running from the ground floor and out the roof for air. In the last six months I have noticed a clicking or dripping sound coming from it. Random times and not when the loo has been flush or tap ran.
Should I be worried?
To get to the pipe I would need to smash down the wall

Chances are it isn't actually down to anything 'dripping' out, which would probably be your worst concern? Most likely it's down to simple expansion and contraction in that pipe, and it just happens to have something like a mounting clip that's bit too tight or it's sitting tight against part of the wall - a piece of timber stud or similar.
As it expands/contracts, it 'clicks' as it moves in wee jumps. (Place your palm flat down on a smooth table, press down hard and then push it forwards - it's likely to move in jumps, stutters and squeaks rather than slide smoothly.)
Not a lot (actually, I can't think of anything...) you can do without accessing it.0 -
If the noise is new then t probably should be investigated. When you start to hear noises that have been noise free for years there is usually a reason.1

Fair do's, bris. I have heard of more than one case like this in a new build. The owner either DIYed or got the builder out and I think they stuffed loft-type insulation around the pipe. I understand it insulated the noise without necessarily solving it.
If it's a new build, and if the noise is a genuine nuisance, then you probably have some call on the builder to rectify it - teach them to sort these kinds of issues in the first place...
I wonder what the noise actually is, tho'. If it's really a 'drip', could it be rain coming in the vent end and falling down the virtual length of the pipe?
If you go in to your loft, newowner, can you see down the cavity where the pipe runs?0 -
Thanks for the advice, the house is around 30 years old. Not sure if the noise is new or been there all the time. Spending much more time at home for obvious reasons. Also think about it it clicks more when there is a bit of a breeze0

A bit of roofing felt tapping against it? Noise can travel very well down 'pipes'. Or a loose vent cover on top?0
