Printing labels

I am trying to work out how to print labels. They are not for addresses, just a filing system.
Is it best to create them as addresses, and do a mail merge?

Are you printing with a label printer, or on to an a4 sheet of multiple stickers?

If you can find a label printing option in one of your apps that fits your labels, then use that. (You don't necessarily have to use mailmerge).
Alternatively, and especially if you want more complex designs, you might want to set up your own template in a drawing package (MS Paint is probably easiest for pixel-wise positioning). What size/layout are your sheets - I have several templates that I use that I could post here.1 -
If you use Avery A4 label stationery you would be able to use the functionality within Microsoft Word to produce your labels dependent on the relevant Avery product code.
I set this up on my own computer some time ago for Xmas card labels and it works perfectly.
I can’t recall the precise steps to take in order to create the document merge, but it didn’t take that long and the process was quite intuitive.1 -
If you’ve got Microsoft Publisher, that works well for labels, as you can divide the page up into a 6 by 4 grid (or whatever).
would've . . . could've . . . should've . . .

There's definitely no 'a' in 'definitely'.1 -
I found sheets of labels are OK to do in Word or other installed program. It was when it came to wanting one label and the next available one was in the in the middle of a sheet. Printing a label wasn't so quick then. This lead to getting a Dymo LabelWriter. It wasn't cheap but it is a convenient way of printing labels. Choose the address from the list or write the text, click print and out reels the label. The Brother VC-500W printer is good for reeling out artistic coloured labels of your own design.Error! - Keyboard not attached. Press any key to continue.0

If you want to print one label, use M$ Word, type the text in the top left hand corner, highlight it, click on Mailings and then Labels, click on Single Label and select the next available column or row on your sticky A4 label sheet. Depending upon your printer, you maybe ale to print using the rear feeder slot or you might have to place the labels in the main tray, upside down usually. Have a care for the font type and size. Generally when you preview the label, if it fits in the box on the screen, you should be OK.0

If you right-click the image below and use either Copy Image or Save Image as it should download at the correct size.

Go into Word, then on the ribbon menu choose Mailings then labels.
In the pop-up select the type of label by clicking on the current type in the lower right box.
then click new document at the bottom.
This creates a table filling the page of the correct layout for the label size, you can then type whatever you like into each box of the table.1
