Last time I moved it was out of my parents into my new build house and think I brought about 5 boxes and some black bin bags. This time I’ve got a whole house!
Anyone got any top moving tips? So far I’ve been advised to pack a suitcase with all essentials for the first night.
would love to hear any people have

Assume you are moving stuff yourself?
Get the beds in and make them sit. Put out bathroom stuff asap.
Label boxes on all sides (saves having to turn them round).Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0 -
I was just going to create an identical thread to this. Also looking for tips on moving house. Which boxes are best/strongest etc?0

Pack a bag with the essentials for 24 hours. Pay the removers for a full packing service. Believe me you will not regret it.6

Start packing the week before you decide you want to move.
if you leave it too late you end up taking your junk with you and never have time to get rid so it moves to the next house as well.
Think about what goes in each box and label, the idea is that if you go into a box you unpack it completely, not just keep looking for odd items through a load of boxes, if you want to keep same stuff in a box pack the things you are most likely to need first on the top.
if you are planning to decorate any room and can't before moving in don't put anything in that room, if multiple rooms keep as much packed as possible to make it easier to get a room clear.3 -
Look at the two other recent threads.
I agree with the above poster saying get the professionals in. I would have bread and water for a month to afford it if I had to.

We won't be moving until end of October at the earliest (COVID & everything else permitting) and I started several weeks ago. Biggest task is to declutter. We've been here 20 years and haven't had a major clearout in all that time. I keep finding things belonging to our sons, one of whom has never even lived here but is abroad so we've acquired some of his stuff. Other son hasn't lived here for about 16 years.
Skip hire has been theraputic and got rid of all the junk previously in the shed & garage. Just the loft to tackle now.
When weather has been bad I've been 'culling' inside and packing clothes in those organiser bags as our bedroom furniture is built in. I'm quite enjoying the process and the local charity shops are benefiting on a rota basis.

Put drawer contents in a plastic swing bin bag then pack them in box in reverse order... Just need to take out of bin bag and put in drawers. Reuse the bin bags.
If you have a display of stuff that you like take a photo so you can arrange it as it was.
Use pillows and bedding and sheets to protect delicate stuff in boxes.
Don't overload boxes with weighty stuff, mix with light things.
Get rid of stuff before you move it, don't move junk.0
