No need to buy same brand of printer as your laptops.

Yes get a good handle on total printing pages required (full family need and then some spare) before considering the monthly plans (have a search on this site techie forum there has been info in some recent posts, I think search "instant ink" ?)

Curry's good if you want to look at the box or the printers on display or be followed by a sales person or sold unwanted cover, IMHO of course and quite a few others online here! Might be convenient of course...... Otherwise buy off the net or a local shop if you have one and will price match!

Reiterate joining Which?. Will not only tell you the best buys but the 'also rans' and the don't buy ones too.

Additionally it is worth checking such as from that ink supplier mentioned in above post for availability of compatible ink cartridges (new printers replacements are not always available from the outset) and the cost of them before buying your printer.
