Hi, I'm new to this forum - so hope I am doing ok in asking is anyone suffering like we are with getting a refund from BA - basically we have tickets for America - and to date the flight is still going BUT we, as Brits, are not being allowed to enter the USA - so we cannot go - yet BA say as the flight is going NO REFUND - also as we booked prior to 3rd March and travel is after 30th September no voucher either and no return of 1000s of Avios used as they were part of fare - their 'solution' is claim on insurance !!!  But I feel this is 'sharp practice' by BA - and wondered has anyone got any advice / help to offer ??
MANY thanks
J

  • It's not 'sharp' practice.

Either wait to see if you can go, or if the flight is cancelled, or claim on your insurance.  It's not BA's fault that you're not American.

    Did you buy travel insurance?
  • Wait closer to the date of flight. It might be cancelled or flexible travel policy might be extended by BA, to cover your travel date and you will be able to request voucher.

If he thinks BA indulge in sharp practice just look at Ryanair and Easy Jet, they are saints compared to them.
I'm sure they will do the honourable thing if he is unable to enter the USA.

    Not entirely !!!
I still have not forgiven them for removing free booze from peasant class where I am normally to be found.
However once again BA won the Battle of Britain - your three and a half month wait for a refund from The Luftwaffe took about the same in days from BA for me  :p

I was in this exact position but with KLM (Flights to USA booked pre-COVID, departure date October, flights not cancelled) . Fortunately for me, KLM decided last week to change their policy and a refund is due. However, I had resorted to a S.75 credit card claim on the basis that they were not able to deliver the service we had paid for since we wouldn’t be permitted entry to the country. I also wrote to the CEO who actually responded quickly.

Insurance won’t cover you for cancelling, but it also won’t cover you for travelling as it’s on the essential travel only list. If you booked with a credit card try this, and let BA know you are doing it.
