A large unheralded credit is usually a classic sign that a supplier 'Lost' sight of either the Elec or Gas, and failed to Bill for it - The 'Computer' see's a BIG credit and returns it to the customer.A human being then takes over, manually checks the account and finds the unbilled energy, but because the supplier cannot charge for unbilled energy used earlier than that used over the last 12 months, they can't recover the whole loss.Check the Aunts past bills to see if they cover both Gas & Elec - If they don't, your Aunt has had £600worth of free energy1

Thank you for all your replies. I think she is going to ignore it then see if they ask again. The direct debit shoukd sort it out possibly.I may ask again if anything else developes.0

To save your aunt having palpatations don't ignore this bill. Take the advice given.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

Why don't you (with her permission) sign her up to an online account so that you can see and check the bills without having to go anywhere? Distance is simply not an issue if you do this.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Some years ago there was controversy over power companies allowing large amounts of credit to accumulate on some accounts, so I believe that refunds of excess amounts are mandatory. Systems will have a figure above which they offer a refund (I have refused them in the past, knowing they will soon be used up). Probably the unbilled amount, added to any credit pushed the credit over the refund line. There is probably not £600 worth of fuel unbilled ; just to the value of the £200 requested.

Is she obliged to make this payment as it sounds like a mistake on their part.
Many thanksApart from the back billing rule, imposed by OFGEM. If the lack of a bill is because of their mistake, then they are only allowed to back-bill for one year.Where has there been any mention of 'lack of a bill'?.
If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0
