Third party phone company

Hi all i got a phone from a third party company with Vodafone only had phone for days and didn't like it so sent it back but i used a pac code to keep my number so first month vodafone took 51 pound off me so contacted the third party company they said ive got to use pac code so vodafone dont charge me anymore so i used pac code and now vodafone are saying i owe them 968 pound cos wasn't cancelled in time so rang the third party company and they are chasing Vodafone to find out why  but i did everything what i should of done so where do i stand cos this is going to effect my credit score can i sue the third party company cos its got to be there fault if anyone can help that will be great
