Shunts are difficult because the rear car will often claim you hit the car in front and then they hit you whereas you as the middle car often say they stopped short and were pushed into the car in front. Normally in these circumstances it all comes down to the statement of the lead car as they've no vested interest, as to if they recall feeling one bump (so a true shunt) or two (so the first scenario). Did Aviva say why they were holding you liable?
Communication was awful.  They never said anything until I contacted them to ask after the renewal came through with reduced NCB.   That was about 8 months later. They then said they settled it as the car that hit me said I was not stationary and suddenly braked.   It just left a bad taste.

  • I'm also now shopping around and Aviva / quotemehappy come out competitive.
But I'm put off by the lack of phone contact - they are online access only. In case of difficulty my instinct is to be able to shout at discuss with someone.
Anyone got views? Experience of dealing with queries, issues etc online with them?

They may well be encouraging people to use other methods, but they still have phone numbers listed on their website:

I think the OP is talking only about Quote Me Happy which happens to be a subsidiary of Aviva and underwritten by them. I was also confused by the Aviva/QuoteMeHappy wording

Ok - what sort of difficulties are you expecting? If there's a claim I would expect they'd want phone contact for that anyway.
  • Using online only support could be extremely frustrating. You will have to wait for the answer every time. I would never consider QMH.

It seems to apply to both Aviva and QMH.
Their quotes are identical though Aviva includes key cover and excludes legal, and QMY includes legal but excludes keys. Otherwise the policies and quotes (and lack of call centres) are identical.
