Gym Membership Cancellation due to Covid rules

Hello all, back in Feb/March I asked my Gym to freeze my membership for a few months, it would cost me £5 a month, however, the lockdown started a few days later and the gym started taking £10 from everyone instead, even though I didn't agree to it. Now the gym re-opened but I have been trying to book a class and its impossible, Im assuming the classes are much smaller so not many places are available. Never had this problem before, especially for all classes. So I decided to leave the gym for now and filled up the cancellation form online, but I received a message saying I need to give them a month's notice, and to not cancel the DD. I think this is very unfair since I have been paying the gym £10 a month for months, without my permission and being unable to use it, obviously, and now I have to pay another(paid one month already) month even though I can't book anything online. I have been with this gym for years. What are the implications of me cancelling the DD, please? Ah, also, the gym was trying to claim one payment of £10 I didn't pay, a couple of months ago. What a cheek, I think! Thanks all in advance.

Just to clarify, I paid a full month's membership last month and due to pay another on the 1st of next month.0
