Possible Ryanair and Easy jet refund
Options

we have booked flights to Barcelona with easy jet and Ryanair for the end of October. Unfortunately with covid regulations we can't self isolate and get paid by my employer so we are going to have to cancel my family holiday. We booked Easy jet outward and Ryanair on the return journey only. Is it possible to get a refund from Ryanair and Easy jet or have we got to lose the £400 we have paid?

As per the hundreds of other threads: the only way you get a refund is if the flight is cancelled by either airline, or your travel insurance covers you. You also have the option to log in and change the dates of the flights.0

Surely though this is ridiculous that they are still flying against FCO advice. We were due to go to Portugal and we cannot self isolate on return but good ol Ryanair are still flying, probably a near empty plane. As a result no refund!0

Well for a starters advice is just that: advice. Also that "advice" is for UK citizens only and flights arent just for UK citizens, add to that people returning home to Spain, people travelling for essential reasons etc... and this is the reason flights are not being cancelled. There is no law that stops flights operating.
Government restrictions arent their concern, to be blunt.0 -
I am assuming these holidays were booked prior to Covid so worth checking to see if travel insurance will cover if you want to cancel based on FCO advice - note the current advice may well change so worth checking at which point you would be covered - may be 28 days before holiday for example0

There's still some foreign nationals going both ways; just because you can't self isolate doesn't mean others who actually need the flight are inconvenienced.
You have a flight booked, and you are choosing not to fly due to advice and nothing more. That's down to you - there's no hard ban, and not being able to self isolate is your issue not the airlines.
And before the usual replies come in, no I don't work for Ryanair or in the travel industry at all. I just try and see everything with a balanced view.0 -

If you booked flights yourself, you're out of luck and will rely on insurance (if applicable) or lose the amount.0 -

Have already been to Italy and hopefully travelling to Germany and Turkey next month.
As long as you have booked with someone super flexible and trustworthy like BA you have got nothing to worry about and no financial risk.

Perhaps I should amend that to 'if you can't self isolate on return' rather than a blanket statement, as that seems to be the main issue with travel abroad.0 -
