When I said I am not obviously going to use the account I meant given the ease at which I opened it, it seemed rather suspicious. Getting a bank account is not an easy process and even if it is online it should require identity checks.
Fancy getting a bank account by giving the same info as if your signing up for a forum.
And I bet if Santander had asked you to bring in your passport, driving licence, utility bill, council tax bill, letter from employer, marriage certificate, 10 years worth of bank statements, P45, and a letter from solicitor into your local branch, you'd be raging on here how difficult it is to open a bank account. Banks can't win..they're damned if they do and damned if they don't. Clearly you don't understand that banks can open accounts using an electronic ID check.

This is how it should work if your ID can be confirmed from the Electoral Register and from your credit reference files. You should be delighted that you did not have to provide additional documents. Once you get your card and your PIN, you are all set.

  • Opening accounts with quite a few banks is as easy as this now.

There are a few though, that stick to archaic rules, branch visits, and snail mail.
  • As @wiseonesomeofthetime has said its now quite easy for lots of organisation to verify you electronically and not require physical paper copies of ID.  The only one i've experienced of having to go into an actual branch with physical proof of ID has been HSBC who it seems use some very archaic and often long winded system.
Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.
  • Are you already known to Santander?

i opened an everyday account online very quickly card an pin within 4 days, account showed in app within minutes, but I already have a 123lite account with them.
