Need advice about internal flights in Australia which we can no longer take due to been unable to travel. Both airlines have said because flights still going ahead we cannot get a refund. We have tried claiming on cc with no luck and after talk with insurance doesn't look hopeful even though flights and insurance taken out before Jan this year.

If th flights are operating then they are providing thee service so there is no obligation to refund you because you can't get there.
Your only claim would be from your insurance of you were covered forFCO advice against travelling. Many people have found they do not have such cover. Before the virus surfaced nobody gave FCO advice much thought.

When were you going? Did the flights definitely go ahead?
I managed to get a refund on Jetstar internal flights in New Zealand in late March, but they were definitely cancelled.0 -

We’ve got a similar issue with Virgin Australia for internal flights Sydney-Hobart. The flights are still going ahead although they’ve changed both outbound & inbound by 24 hours, which would give us an extra 2 days in Hobart. As we booked prior to them going into administration, we are only being offered a conditional credit which has to be used by 30/9/20, interesting as the flights were booked on aren’t until 2/10/20.
We’ve done a chargeback on our credit card & we’re waiting to hear back. The other interesting thing is that had we still been traveling to Sydney, we’d have to quarantine for 14 days and these internal flights are within that 14 days so we wouldn’t be able to take them anyway.0
