Hi all,
We run an events business and not had a single job on since March this year due to Covid. We have been on furlough and now furlough is coming to an end we are still desperately looking for any kind of work. We have both applied for various jobs as living off £65 a week and having a business unit rent, mortgage and vehicles we are struggling.

Right - we have both been told today we might have the opertuiniy from 2 different companies of some work!! This is 100% nothing to do with events and separate but they are only taking people on in a self employed basis. Now - we need money 100% for our mortgage, food, kids - basically to live!! and I do not want to be putting this work into our business as income as it has nothing to do with the business. Its only flexible hrs, but its work and gives us some sanity.

We are being advised to invoice still through our business and not start off as self employed, and some others are saying 100% keep this away from the business and just note income and outgoings and then declare that at the end of the year
I do want to keep any income that has nothing to do with events - to be totally separate. What is the best way to do this? Maybe my wife and myself start off a new business and put all this through the books?
Who do we register with? for? its just so so confusing !!!!! I want to do it the best way so we don't play double of anything.

Is it genuinely a self employed role, or a company that is trying to avoid its obligations by telling people they have to be self-employed even when in practice they are workers or employees?

Well the one I have is well know couriers and they are looking for flexi drivers and this is done via self employment - I want to do this 100% right, they are offering me 3 days minimum to 5 days and gives me freedom if a job does happen to come in on my actual business. But I totally want to keep it away from my actual business, as this driving job is to put food on my table, and not to support an industry where if furlough ends and we get no more support - then over 200,000 event professionals will be unemployed over night and thousands of businesses collapse. So this is something i need to do - but want to keep it separate , but done legally.

My wife's company she is looking at joining - they do have 5 workers who are self employed and they use them when they need to - and they have 10 fully employed. Yes its all legit. She is assisting in products and negotiating with potential clients for purchasing.

I think you might be in the wrong section of the forum to get the advice you are looking for - perhaps the employment section might be a bit more useful? Post again there or ask the forum team to have the thread moved to the most appropriate place. @Browntoa and @soolin used to be the boardguides for this bit. Maybe they can help.
