I wanted to ask and add answers to this microsoft forum
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/how-to-connect-surface-pro-7-to-3-monitors/5ffc1969-d28a-4f76-b34d-39d29aa9e965
I tried to create a new account but it recognised my email already. I searched my email inbox and 1 year ago I found the registration email, not sure if I ever posted anything before. Also in my email inbox from 4 weeks ago was this message:
120259xxxxx was removed from your Microsoft account.
Hello,
Another Microsoft account has established ownership of 120259xxxxx. If you no longer own 120259xxxxx, we can help you set up another sign in name the next time you sign in to your Microsoft account. If 120259xxxxx still belongs to you, we can help you reclaim it.
Visit https://account.live.com/ to choose another sign in name for your account, or verify ownership of 120259xxxxx again.
Thanks,
The Microsoft account team
I logged in to the website and reset my password, I then got this message
Your account requires attention
Someone else has claimed ownership of 120259xxxxx. You'll need to use a different username next time you sign in.
I still own 120259xxxxx
Clicking on "I still own ..." takes you to a new screen saying "We have sent a code to 120259..  enter the code below"  but I get no email.

Does anyone know what this number means? Why can't I still create a new account with my existing email address? It won't let me do that. If I had made posts before does the other person now see my old posts and I won't be able to? Thank you

  • I would guess your mobile phone does not start with 1 or the international code 20xxxxxx which seems to be egypt. Or does your email start with 120259.. ? I can't help much with other scenarios since I have never experienced problems with my MS accounts except for getting occasional emails saying new device detected from wherever I am on holiday(remember those) or when using a VPN.

It's no phone no. or email of mine. I thought it was a microsoft account number of some sort.
Maybe someone with a similar gmail to mine input mine by mistake, hence I don't remember signing up a year ago.  This would also explain why there was initially 2 "verify" emails within 4 mins of each other at 04:30am - which is about 9pm in USA.

I tried the "contact us" page on microsoft, - impossible to ask their chat bot about "microsoft account" wanted to speak to a human but was utterly impossible. no email address to contact them with either.
I have opened a new account with my junk email account.  I intend now to ask on the community boards about this.

Good grief, I created a new account (and verified the email address) and it won't let me ask a question unless I provide a mobile phone number for a text code to be sent... I don't have a mobile phone so as there is no alternative I cannot post to the community.

I guess the email that Microsoft "recognised already" was NOT a Microsoft domain email?

No it was my gmail account.  I edited the above, I think someone used the wrong email to register but somehow they managed to register a phone number without me verifying my email address \\//
So they can make a mistake and recover their phone No. access, but my email address remains completely blocked by their system and I cannot claim ownership of my email address on their systems.  It just stays in limbo.

Guessing the number is an alias and is formatted as a Microsoft internal id.  You cannot create a new account with your existing email address because you already have an account with that email address (assuming we're talking about your gmail address).
I've seen issues with Microsoft accounts where the email address is a non-Microsoft domain email address.  The issues are email issues which I don't think you have a problem with but you could create a Microsoft domain alias e.g.  xxxxxxxxx@outlook.com by logging on to your account and going to

  • Gmail supports email address tagging so you could try to register using your email address + a tag (e.g. xxxxx+ms@gmail.com).
