Edinburgh with Tesco Deals

Could do with some advice please. I have enough Tesco vouchers to change into about £500 Tesco Deals.
Got the brochures of the hotels advertised in the Deal Booklet, and we fancy Edinburgh for about 4 nights. Rang Ramada Jarvis (re: Mount Royal, Edinburgh) they quoted £495 for 4 nights B&B in 2 rooms at the end of August, all family rooms had gone for August as there is so much going on there then. We have to go then because of leave booked from work/school.
Does this seem very expensive, does anyone know the hotel? I need to use the Deals, so unfortunately I may not be able to use some cost cutting ideas.
But any help would be gratefully appreciated to reduce the cost, and use the deals.
Thanks
toozie

It is a nice hotel on Princes Street. It is right in the centre of everything, hence the price. I looked on the Travelodge site and they are asking £90.00 per room per night for the end of August, so I think, although expensive, it is quite a good deal.Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.0

toozie, although expensive for a hotel in the centre of Princes Street at the end of August that is a not bad deal.
If you decided to go for it head over to the Scotland board and you will find lots of suggestions on where to eat and what to to

We used Tesco vouchers a few years back for the Holyrood hotel near the palace and thoroughly enjoyed the weekend. We chose the Macdonal Hotel offer because we could get DB&B making it very cheap including some nice meals.
This year we've got a Mobile Home for a couple of weeks in Spain via French/Camping Life with Tesco vouchers. Camping Life had a 50% off brochure price offer at the time so combined with the Tesco 4x face value we paid 1/8th the cost. Vouchers also used for the car hire together with cheap flights has made a great cheap holiday - thanks Tesco.0 -

I was hoping you'd pop up, if we book I'll keep asking you questions!!:j0 -
Pop up? I'll pop in and meet you

However, I really can't comment on the quality or whatever of Edinburgh hotels as I haven't stayed in them, although I did always used to go into the Mount Royal for a coffee if shopping in Princes Street.
But if you are staying in the Mount Royal during the Festival you will have a braw view of the fireworks

Do you know anything about the NCP car park, where we'd have to leave the car. Like cost, security, distance from hotel etc.
Sorry to keep bothering you!:j0 -
Ah well I did wonder if you were coming by car. There are other Ramada hotels in Edinburgh where they have parking and you could jump a bus into town. Having a car in the town centre is a complete no, no these days.
Any kids in your party?
Just saw this morning on the tele that Rolf Harris is to be in Edinburgh towards the end of August where they are re-painting a huge Mona Lisa with 120 artists all contributing a piece similar to what they did in London a year or so ago.
oh and to answer your question, not sure which ncp car park you are talking about, is it in George Street?0 -
I suppose coming across Rolf unexpectedly would be a bit scary for young ones.Edinburghlass wrote:Any kids in your party?0 -

They are 14 & 15 yr old girls, who would probably scare Rolf!
I have a Ramada Jarvis brochure, and the only hotel in Edinburgh is the Mount. But I'll look at the web site after, I need to use the Tesco Deals to get the free accomodation, which leaves us dosh to spend on other stuff.
The details for the Mount in the brochure just states that parking is in a local NCP Car Park, not that hubby is very happy about leaving the car there.
We have a Family Rail Card, and I might price up the fare, but we wanted to break the journey in Cumbria to see some relations on the way up.
I'll keep you posted, and start looking on the Scottish Board too.
thanks, toozie:j0 -
Toozie, I have a fourteen year old daughter and would love to meet up with you all

I was asking about kids to get a feel of what you would be looking to do and the programme about Rolf just sprung into my mind, lol.
Edinburgh is certainly do able without a car, maybe you could consider driving to Cumbria and getting the train from there?
Our schools will be back to work around the middle of August but the city will be full of tourists with the Official Festival, Fringe, Boot Festival and Film Festival all going on
