E-On Smart Meter Installation

I moved from SSE to E-On during the pandemic, I already had a smart meter 2nd gen installed on my electric by SSE, but they never got the gas smart meter fitted due to lock-down restrictions as the technician didn't have the right kit with him on the day he came out (said the gas box was too far away as it's outside on the ground floor, the electric meter is on the first floor).  E-On are now saying they can't fit the gas smart meter as it won't be compatible with the electric one, but can't explain why.  Would appreciate it if anyone in the know could explain why this is the case, or am I just being given the run-around?  Thanks in advance.

The gas meter does not have to be compatible with the electric meter, if just has to share the comms hub powered from the electric meter.
However given your meter locations, it is entirely possible that you will not be able to have a working smart gas meter installed.

Thanks MWT, I would have been happy enough if this was the justification given, but they haven't been out to my house to look at it, and the explanation given feels like a fob off.

Edit:  Using a bit of Pythagoras for the first time in 25 years, the distance between the 2 is 6.5 meters, doesn't sound excessive to me.....

  • Is that 6.5 gas or electricity "meters"?
    Sorry, couldn't resist!

Ha, well it made me chuckle anyway!

Good morning norris_cole and welcome to the forums.

I’m sorry that we haven’t really explained this very well, some of these issues can depend on a few things.

I really want to give you the answer to what the issues might be, but would need to see your account and possibly let a specialist have a look. That way I can understand why we said no to fitting the gas meter.

If you’re happy to, would you mind popping all of your details on an email to me, so I can take a look.

The email address is in my profile page.

    Thanks

    Jordan 😊

It annoys me that the majority of tv presenters comment that vehicles do so many kilometers an hour instead of kilometres, yet they have no problem with kilograms .
  • Nearly 2 weeks on and E-on still haven't replied to the email that they requested I send them, pretty much sums up their customer service!
