Does it sound like my horn is broken

My toyota yaris failed it's mot and one thing it failed on was the horn not working so I've checked the fuse and that's fine and when you press down the horn on the steering wheel you can hear something clicking in the fuse box so would it sound like the horn is dead.

  • I'll take an educated guess and say if it's not making a 'horn type' noise when you press down on the button then yes it's broken. Should be able to pick one up for not much money I would think.

One way to find out is connect the horn directly to the car battery, or any spare 12v battery you have.

    Dear OP
This takes me to my first car :)
My horn broke but closer inspection by daddy, all we could hear was a click like sound where the horn wanted to sound but it could not. Dad got me a horn for a few quid and change it within a minute or so I think my one was near the front to the side of the radiator.
you could get one open the box carefully and see if it work and if not return it.

If the relay is clicking, then that's a reasonable indication that the control and the relay are good. So it's either the horn itself, or wiring damage/corrosion.

Two minutes with a multimeter will tell you for sure.

Can you access the wiring? Be tempted to simply replace the horn in a more accessible location and wire to there

I have a multimeter but I've forgotten how to use it. I hope the wiring is damaged near the horn or the wiring is corroded as a horn is £45.

Put the model number of your multimeter in a Youtube search - someone is bound to have done a 'how to' guide for it.
