Hi, we recently moved to a new house. There is a lamp post in the garden which doesn’t have bulb. The socket looks like the attached photo. Just wanted to know which type of bulb will fit into this socket. Sorry, the lamp post is a bit dirty, looks like it has not been used for long. I am trying to understand if we can light it up.

Looks like an Edison screw (ES ) e27 bulb. It may mention that on the white sticker

Thanks a lot Browntoa, really appreciate your prompt reply on this. On the white sticker, it says EC/EN 17, pic attached. I am going to get a E27 and give it a try.Browntoa said:Looks like an Edison screw (ES ) e27 bulb. It may mention that on the white sticker

Thanks Mickey, I quickly tried with e27 and it did fit the socket. Tried couple of potential switches but it doesn’t light. I need to to figure the power supply now. Thanks for the prompt reply. I am good for the moment.Mickey666 said:Yes, Edison screw, but difficult to tell the size from the photo. If the lamp post is 'domestic' then almost certainly an E27 bulb will do, but if the lap post is 'commercial' then it could be an E40 fitting intended for a sodium lamp, in which case there should also be an associated 'ballast' unit somewhere within the lamp-post.The 'E' number denotes the screw diameter in mm, so simplest way to determine the type is to use a tape measure.0 -
I'm not 100% sure, but I think there might be some control gear in there and a 240V bulb won't work. the E inside a triangle means you need a bulb with an external ignitor.0

Is it not an F inside the triangle? Either way, possibly implies the same thing as that particular symbol perhaps seems to imply that its a discharge lamp required (and can be mounted on a flammable surface)fenwick458 said:I'm not 100% sure, but I think there might be some control gear in there and a 240V bulb won't work. the E inside a triangle means you need a bulb with an external ignitor.Northern Ireland club member No 382 :j0 -
That's a Noral branded outdoor light. i used to sell those back in the day (20 years ago). they were always considered an upmarket brand compared to the likes you would get from Homebase / B&Q type brands. it will take a standard E27 lamp.1

Try putting a bulb in and playing with switches after dark - there might a daylight sensor somewhere preventing it from coming on...0

I was about to post the same thing - great quality cast aluminium light fittings, if I remember correctly they had a long guarantee, but not sure it's 20+ years! You should still be able to get replacement glazing for it; there should be a model number on the backplate.tonygold said:That's a Noral branded outdoor light. i used to sell those back in the day (20 years ago). they were always considered an upmarket brand compared to the likes you would get from Homebase / B&Q type brands. it will take a standard E27 lamp.0
