Green tomatoes

Just read something in one of those gardening magazines, and it's seems to work - You have to give them some stress!. So stop any feed and cut back on the watering and see if they turn quicker

Last year I grew 'Sweet Aperitif' and two other tomatoes: the taste and yield of 'Sweet Aperitif' - small fruits but very tasty - was so superior, this year I have grown only five 'Sweet Aperitif' plants and. like others, have many trusses still green.
Last year, in the cool conditions 'oop north', I took off every truss that was left on the plants just before our first predicted frost (very early October) and, running a line across inside my frost-free garage, hung them all on the line. I picked fresh red tomatoes from there until 3rd December, so that may be worth a try for you, too.1 -
My green tomatoes are all now in paper bags being encouraged to turn red by an apple. I think the problem is my north facing back garden, next year I’ll grown them at the front, or maybe further down the garden in a sunnier spot.1

What a great thread! I have very few of my larger tomatoes that have ripened this year and am in Canada where frosty nights are starting already. I have some 'yellow boy' variety who dont seem to know what yellow is lol! I am going to pick them this weekend and store them in a paper bag. I dont really have enough for chutney I dont think and ma not sure what green tomato chutney even tastes like???1

Green tomato chutney is nice, especially with cheese. My ex makes a realLy good one. Fried green tomatoes seems to be a North American thing, I’d never heard of them before the film! Maybe it’s because the growing season is shorter that side of the pond. I’ll give mine a chance to ripen but am already planning a green tomato puttanesca. A friend recommends green tomato salsa.1

I saw a recipe for green tomato soup a day or so ago, so I suspect there may be plenty of recipes out there!1

Mine never ripen in time. I always take them off and store them in some dark woolly socks in a warm place. More effective than putting them on a sunny window sill like my grandad used to do.1
