Post Office sold account to Cabot

I had a Post Office credit card many years ago. It expired in 2011 and I haven't heard anything from The Post Office regarding this account since,  until this week when I received a letter informing me that my account had been sold to Cabot Financial and I owe £625. I believe it may have been included in a debt management plan around thar time but I don't have any paperwork from that far back. Post Office money can't/won't  help as its records don't go that far back apparently but Cabot want proof of the account being closed. Can this be enforced after 9 years? Where do I go from here?
