2nd hand car warranty help

My do has bought a car and it's still under the 3 month warranty. This is the 2nd time he has to call the aa out to help recover the car due to faults.
My question is as its a 09 plate and he's driven it (also had black box installed) is he entitled to a refund?

I don't want to go to the garage and argue the point if I'm wrong, any help would be greatly appreciated

    No, not necessarily.

    How long's he had it?
    What are the faults?
It's an 11yo car - how was it described?
How many miles has he covered?
  • How long's he had it?
    Few days over 3 months
    What are the faults?
Engine management light has come on and gone in to limp mode. Car has already been back due to radiator leaking and glow plugs melting.
It's an 11yo car - how was it described?
Was described as perfectly good running car
How many miles has he covered?
    Not even 1000

Only thing he's worried about is he's had a black box installed as he's only 18

So no absolute right to rejection - they have a right to repair, assuming the issues are outside those to be reasonably expected of a car of that age.

Has anybody read the fault codes yet? The light may be utterly trivial.
Radiator and glow plugs are just consumables - it's absolutely reasonable for them to be replaced on an 11yo car.

Cost of removing that would be up to him, should he choose to reject.
  • The codes haven't been looked at as they haven't been to pick the car up.

    Thanks for help

  • I purchased a 2nd hand car from a reputable company about 18 months ago, i was also sold a warranty for over £400 i don't usually but on this occasion it was a Audi Q5. I have not had any problems what so ever, now during lockdown my car service light came on for the 1st time since purchasing my car, i contacted the garage to find out they are not doing MOT or services, because of covid etc.
When my car was due to have it's MOT i tried to contact the showroom, but no one was answering my calls, but then most company's where working from home. I contacted one of there other salesroom to try and book my car in for service and MOT but the earliest date was 6 weeks away, no good for me mine was due in 2 weeks. So i booked my car in at National Tyres for a service and MOT, well it passed the MOT but they found a problem with a sensor and need to be sorted asap. I contacted another salesroom associated with the company i purchased my car from, i was transferred to the warranty department to be told i am only allowed to use there company for services and MOT ( THOUGH IT DOESN'T STATE THAT IN THE PAPERWORK. )
I explained the situation i was in but it has fallen on deaf ears, they finally got back to me to explain i will have to go to a company they choose to get the job priced, but i have to pay £100 just for the job to be priced up none refundable. I'm hoping you can help and advise please.

Can you please start your own thread. Also, practically all dealers have been open for months now performing services and MOTs.

An 09 plate with 1000 miles?
What's it been doing sitting on the drive going nowhere?
