Hello, I am due to fly to fly to the Maldives in December 2020 (booked it Jan 2020) and have received an email from Emirates advising due to operational reasons I have a schedule change. This being :-
OLD - 17th Dec EK653 Male 22:55 to Dubai 02:05
18th Dec EK0017 Dubai 07:10 to Manchester 11:15
NEW - 18th Dec EK0656 Male 09:15 to Dubai 12:25
18th Dec EK0019 Dubai 14:30 to Manchester 18:40
I had booked a whole package with Emirates that included the accommodation in the Maldives. This change incurs an additional night (which ordinarily I wouldn’t complain about) but I doubt Emirates will pay the extra night.
Does anyone know if I now have an option to now cancel the whole booking. At the moment I have paid a deposit but the final balance is due in 7 days.
Thanks in advance

Have you spoken to Emirates regarding this change?  Otherwise it's pure speculation.

It's strange how few people think of doing that.

Thanks - of course I’m going to speak to Emirates but I wanted to try and see if I could get some helpful information / advice first particularly if someone else has been in the same position 😊

Emirates Holidays terms and conditions are here https://www.emiratesholidays.com/gb_en/terms/agency
In common with most holiday providers they do not class a time change of under 12 hours as significant
what was your original checkout time? - were you having to leave your accommodation and wait about for the late flight or did you have your accommodation until you were due to go to the airport?  (in which case there may not be a requirement for an extra night)
  • Hello. I think checkout was midday so yes we’d stay there until probably 8pm. The resort is literally a short boat ride to/from Male airport so we don’t need a seaplane Etc. Therefore now our departure is 9am the next day we would definitely need another night in the resort. 😊

Speak to Emirates and see what they say, they might offer the night you need to stay as a freebie or at a discounted rate.
You could be waiting hours for someone who has been in the same position to post a reply.
Post back with the response from the airline.

the other option would be to ask for the same flights as they have offered but on the 17th instead. No need for extra night and not 'losing' too much of the holiday if you were checking out at noon anyway (personally I hate the hanging around on the last day)

You will probably need the last night on the main island rather than in respect as check-in will be at 0715 and I am not sure the speedboats and certainly not the seaplanes will be operating that early. I suspect Emirates Holidays will be able to cover the cost, as the hotels near the airport are nothing like the resorts on the islands!
  • Contacted Emirates (80 min wait to get through) - advised that from an Emirates perspective that it was a significant / major change. The lady I spoke to outlined various options - one of which was to stay the extra night but with no guarantee that Emirates would pay the £600 per night extra. The final option was a cancellation which included the refund of our deposit which I have accepted. Thank you for your comments. Caz
