DO ELECTRICITY COMPANIES HAVE A FINANCIAL LOSS WHEN PEOPLE USE ELECTRICITY WITHOUT PAYING??

Options
NOT IN TERMS OF WHAT THEY WOULD HAVE MADE IN PROFITS HAD THE PERSON BEEN PAYING.

BUT IN TERMS OF WHAT IT COSTS THE COMPANY TO SUPPLY AND NOT BE PAID.

I WAS THINKING ELECTRICITY ITS NOT LIKE WATER OR FOOD YOU CAN GENERATE AN ABUNDANT AMOUNT OF IT , DOES THE ELECTRICITY COMPANY EVEN GET AFFECTED?

IF SO HOW?

REGARDING CRIMINALS THAT GET AN ILLEGAL SUPPLY AND GO UNNOTICED.

???? POST - Yes they do lose money
Generated Electricity is bought and sold on a European wide market with prices varying by the day and the hour, each retail supplier buys what they need for the number & type of customers they have, plus paying fees to operate.
There are 'Shiperless' meters in being that due to one !!!!!!-up or another in the registration system, don't have a registered supplier, and customer crooks who prevent the meter recording what they are useing, but these don't have enough effect to put the lights out
  • What a strange opening post. Do people really think energy companies buy electric for free?

No, they make it out of thin air. But they have to pay for the wires they keep it in until we need it to power a cannabis farm!

OK, not easy to follow the way the question is presented, but I think it is more nuanced than it looks...
If we are talking about someone bypassing a meter so there is no record of the consumption, how does the incumbent supplier ever get billed for the wholesale price of that electricity that is used if the bypass isn't discovered? (even if it is discovered is there a method for billing the supplier?).

  • I would suggest the energy bled off by bilkers is rolled up with the transmission losses and the cost socialised amongst the rest of us.
