Finding a structural engineer

I'm selling my house and the buyer's homebuyer survey flagged potential subsidence as we have cracks in the pebble dashing which runs right the way down the house. Our buyer's mortgage lender has said that they won't lend the money until a structural survey is done. So I need to get this done and just have a couple of questions. Is a buildings survey and structural survey the same thing? And also, do I need to look for an engineer with any specific qualifications or letters after his name and should they be registered on the Institution of Structural Engineers?

Surely it's your buyer who needs to find an engineer (that they're happy with) rather than you? They'll need the report to be addressed to them, not you.1

Firstly I agree with DavidMcN, and secondly a member of the ICE should be able to do the survey as well as IStructE.
Health Warning: I am happy to occasionally comment on building matters on the forum. However it is simply not possible to give comprehensive professional technical advice on an internet forum. Any comments made are therefore only of a general nature to point you in what is hopefully the right direction.1 -
Thanks, my friend has just mentioned this actually. This has all come through my estate agent, I've not heard from my solicitor or the buyer's.0
