I have two Lloyd's accounts, a Classic and a Club Lloyd's one. Once I've used the last of my Club Lloyd's cinema vouchers, I might use the account as a donor account for one of these switching bonuses that are beginning to crop up, ie HSBC.

In the past I have opened a TSB Classic, put in a small sum and left it for a few months before switching. This was in addition to the Classic Plus a/cs that I already hold.
It was very easy to open online (no idea about the credit search)
Being polite and pleasant doesn't cost anything!

If you mean their Cash Account - it's not a real basic account as it doesn't offer Direct Debits plus it can be upgraded (keeping the same details) to their Current account and therefore switched.mab3000 said:
Metro bank are part of the CASS but you cannot use the switching service for their basic account.dahj said:

They hard-searched me in 2018 when I opened my Halifax current account. Then I applied for an overdraft on that account next year. No hard search. I applied for Halifax credit card in 2020 and again, no search on any of my credit files.

Metro themselves class this type of account as a “basic account” and is available to customers that are not eligible for their standard current account eg) poor credit history. However they do let anyone apply for this type of account. Just because it doesn’t handle direct debits doesn’t mean it’s not a real basic account. If a customer holding this type of account isn’t eligible to upgrade it to their standard account, then they cannot use the CASS to switch it.dahj said:

Some banks actively encourage a second account as they know it helps with budgeting.Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.0
