12p - 15p/kWh single rate electricity, 8p/kWh E7 night rate, or less than 3p/kWh for mains gas?
    Not very hard to decide.

If you already have gas it's a no brainer.

Another vote for gas. Much cheaper.

Or you could be a low user of gas like myself for who the second standing charge, boiler maintenance and increased capital costs would be significant.
A bit more information is needed.

  • Gas every time even for a low user. We only use around 6500kWh of gas a year and it is still worth us having gas heating over electric.

I've got leccy and a very economical air source heat pump but if they decided to install gas along our road I would be one of the first to convert.
As others have said leccy is around 4-5 times more expensive than gas per kwh and it doesn't matter how "efficient" or energy saving the adverts or salesman say, it still takes the same number of kwh to heat a place whether it be gas or leccy.

Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers
